Good morning. I went off to read the full A statement as I like to know details and also to reflect given how APG has been part of our lives for 8 years.

They claim less than 1% of customers use it and when asked customers have said loud and clear they prefer lower prices rather than APG. I am not sure why the two would be linked - it didn't have to be lower prices or apg, apg was the backstop and the guarantee. If they were cheaper then they don't issue an apg. But making it about us wanting overall lower prices will appeal to the majority I suppose as 99% of their customers don't use it anyway.

As we have all observed, there has been little mention of apg instore since they stopped the MyS link, so it is not surprising fewer people are using it as awareness has reduced. For many customers it was always a faff having to wait and print vouchers for the next shop (unlike the last version of T BM where it was off the Total before paying, and S BG printed at the till). In many cases they wouldn't see a saving if they didn't target/split the shop like us, as offers in A could cancel out savings elsewhere. I know many in my family never bothered with it or CoS etc, despite me explaining in detail, as it was too much hassle or perceived to take up too much time. For A printing after was a potential strength as it encouraged repeat visits to spend it next time - but that is limited if few are using it.

An overall value, rather than people using it, was the guarantee itself - if A were prepared to offer it, for some that was enough with the perception A wouldn't offer it if they weren't confident they were cheaper. With other independent price comparisons to say they are cheaper, they have that covered.

It will not have helped that on the times APG has been mentioned over recent years in the press it has been in the context of a glitch or wombling (which could be seen as negative for/by A as it may give the impression that they have opened themselves to be exploited), rather than highlighting their guarantee to be cheapest. Add that to the fact that an increasing number of muggles are buying in different ways by going for smaller shops, going to different stores including discounters etc, and the cost of running it may outweigh the extra income it is generating (very likely with Elite ways of shopping ;):D). The proposed takeover by S will have prompted a review of all activities, they were likely reviewing apg even before, and with S, T and M dropping their equivalent schemes, the conditions have changed substantially.

For us, over recent years glitches have been reduced as they changed how they set up promotions, have been making fewer errors, and perhaps began reading forums like this to spot where they could refine the settings further. We can see the impact of their changes (and Ts) with Elite with fewer messages on here, as the primary reason this group exists is savings/offers/glitches (I know there are other reasons too :A, but for many that is why they got involved and why people have drifted away as glitches reduced).

On a personal level, this past year I have been spending less time chasing the deals as it became apparent that I was spending too much time on it, which is time I can be spending on other pursuits :A.

As one door closes, maybe others will emerge to keep us occupied.

    Here ends my essay :D.

Sooo long i thought it was a Savvy post ;)

I won't be losing too much sleep over it's demise as it will give me a portion of my life back to do better, more worthwhile, less obsessve things, but it will have a wider knock on effect.

    No APG=no free/cheap shops=no flumps:eek:=no wombling=far less receipts=dramatic reduction in free cash from receipt apps=far less free food/drink from COS/Q due cashback/apg combined v health benefits in buying far less beer/wine. ;)
  • It looks like Marks are killing off the £10 meal deal - this weeks its £10 again instead of £12 but no wine, very poor selection of mains and puds and you can choose 2 sides - an extra side is not the equivalent of a bottle of wine :([/QUOTE]

OMG so with that and the end of the APG it looks like we will have to use real money - not too bothered though as I am with TSB and they don't let you spend your ££££s anyway lol.

Amanda I don't want you to get in trouble but we are meant to post voting links in another place on MSE and then do links to it there. Like we do for charity donations...

But for the life of me I can't remember where at the moment. :o

    Afternoon All,

Just read the news about the demise of the APG.

Really disappointed, but I suppose all good things come to an end.

I've still got a few big vouchers from the recent wine glitch so will spend ASAP.

@silvercar. I've got a Beko freezer in my garage (bought from AO.com - highly recommended). Had it a couple of years and it works fine through winter.

Only problem is, it won't be as full from now on.

    Cheers,
    Sad_Dad

    Good Morning to you all
I have a little request. It's cheeky, but if you don't ask you don't get! My daughter is in the top 5 for a talent competition and I wondered if any of you lovely people would be kind enough to vote for her please. You just need a YouTube account and comment #1 in the comments. Her name is Cassie and this is the link:

You're not allowed shortened links so when you find the right place to post you'll need to post the whole link
