Can confirm the Nivea Luscious Lips and the Loreal Lip Crackers (beige and red) still worked fine from shop done at 10.00 am.

Would have tried the pink but none on the shelf.

Thanks Anon - I did phone them on Saturday after the first couple of failures. I was a bit annoyed at the failures but was more concerned to check that there was nothing wrong with my card (as this is the first time I have had an Amex one). They were very good and immediately said they would put 2 £5 credits on my account. I wrote off yesterdays failure as I didn't want them to think I was after another handout.

As Amex check every shop each year I can't really understand how the cards are refuses. Amex cards basically work just like any other credit or debit card so, if the shop accepts Amex then the cars should work with their terminals. The staff all clearly knew that they SHOULD work but didn't know what to do.

I didn't get an Amex card for small shops though - I got it for the £100 worth of Nectar points that they were offering if I spent £2000 in the first 3 months! Hopefully those points will appear very soon as I have met the 'spend'.

Amex don't check every shop each year, and that is why there are so many problems!! A couple of years ago they decided to auto-enroll any business that accepts Amex, as i found my own business on the map and i had to call them to get myself removed (i work from home so didn't want people turning up on my doorstep!!)

A lot of the shops i've been to in the past have no idea about shop small and i dont think Amex send them any information about it (i definitely never received anything)

Few of the shops knew about the £5 back offer although several did have an amex small shops sticker on display. The annoying butcher who had a £15 min spend which I only discovered after they had packaged up the meat did know that Amex didn't work on their POS as contactless and had to be chip and pin.

I have had two retailers (4 transactions) that haven't 'tracked', trying to sort out online but messaging has been replaced by live chat and I get 'you are in a queue an agent will be with you in 15 mins and then when I remember to check back the agent has been and gone and I am cut off and need to start again :(
    I think....

  • Afternoon Elite,

Just been into town, to mirror what the above members said... CHAOS!

Now waiting to go to the doctors. I'm a bit of a loon these days and take my laptop as I'm often waiting around 30 mins after my appointment slot.

Hope the rest of the ELITE has a wonderful weekend. Here's to the run up to Christmas!

2 different staff (Amex) both told me the same thing ie every shop is checked every year about 6 months prior to the promotion. (I did find this difficult to believe !) They said they need confirmation from the 'owners' of each outlet before they can list them.

Can I ask why you don't phone them - I find it easier to talk to someone direct.
