    Just caught up. Bubbs, I bought the Morries beef and slow cooked it today. It looks amazing but will report back after dinner party tonight. Seems great quality.

    tbw, ring them or live chat them and they will credit you £5 per shop which doesn’t take Amex but was on their list.

    Night all.

    Yes that’s right I bought them today. January dates on them as well now :D

    Thanks! I'm rubbish at figures and had only bought fruit veg fillers so tried to work it out minus the fillers. I got January dates too thankfully as been munching my way through a pile in the fridge that were all dated 24th Dec (and been that date for what seems like FOREVER) :)

    Silvercar, i have had my duke nearly a yr:eek: can you believe it? gone really quick

    Still enjoying it I hope. I wouldn't give mine up, though apparently they are stopping selling them in America some time next year, so the end may be in sight.
    Oooops, sorry :rotfl::rotfl:

    The stores do seem to be rather rare, couldn't believe it when they opened one nearby, just a little too tempting though!

    One opened very near me, always looks busy.

    I am glad the small shops/Amex thing has finished - it's the first time I have taken part and I wouldn't bother again ! I managed just 2 shops - 5 others had closed down and 3 bakeries caused me massive trouble as the staff were worse than useless. I asked first if they charged a fee for Amex and checked they would accept the card (they did have the Amex logo in the window but I wanted to be certain). I selected a mixture of pasties and then the trouble started when they tried to take payment as my card kept being refused - and I know there was nothing wrong withe the card as it as I had already used it today. After several abortive 'tries' they all decided they did not take Amex after all so I told them they could keep the goods. It was awkward as by the time they had finished there were long queues behind me - and the staff weren' too happy and having to put pasties back. All in all a waste of time.

    I understand that Amex physically check with each store months before the promotion runs to ensure they are happy to participate and that staff know what to do so there is no ex use really.

    Sign up in a butchers near me that they are participating in shop small - spend £10 get £5 back. Handwritten sign next to it, that there is a £30 minimum spend for Amex, but good news you will get £15 back. Imagine there will be a lot of disappointed customers. I tried to have a conversation about it and the guy said they were only taking Amex for shop small then would give it up.

    Anon re: Nespresso pods

    I read somewhere that a person bought a machine kept the £75 coffee credit and sold machine on ebay. They did this every so often to get free credit for throughout the year!

    You could look into this!

    You need an android phone and a visa card from a particpating bank. You'll 99% likely want the phone to have NFC so you can pay as you would with a contactless card. You get to open an envelope to open each time you make a purchase. You can open 10 per day. People are buying 10p sweets at Tesco etc.

    I'm reading that the HSBC card for the costa had a cut off date on 12/12 is that right? thanks

    Sorry you had problems - get on chat tomorrow and complain as they have been known to credit the £5s for each closed business/refusal. Amex claim to have checked yet there are so many reports of businesses refusing (that refused last year too!) and businesses that closed down a long time ago, that confirm their system is not reliable.
