How do tesco vouchers work in restaurants?

Hello,
We've got some tesco clubcard points that we are thinking about using for trying some local restaurants. Quick question about the vouchers themselves, as we've never used them before.
If we get for example £40 worth of vouchers (let's say 2 x £20 restaurant vouchers), but we end up getting only £25 of food that's possible to be paid for with those vouchers, is the difference of £15 lost if not use in that visit as one of the £20 vouchers has already been used to pay for £5? or can we just keep the balance in the same restaurant voucher for another visit?
And, do these restaurant vouchers tend to have an expiry date? How long for if you know of the value for any of the participant chains?
Thanks.

You lose any 'unspent' value on a Tesco voucher, so better to get several low denomination vouchers (or work out in advance how much you are likely to spend because yes, vouchers to expire and relatively quickly - I've not bought any recently but I think last time I did it was a couple of months).0

I used £7 of Clubcard vouchers at the weekend to get £28 off a meal at Pizza Express. The vouchers do have a time limit, although I can't remember what - and yes, you will 'lose' any unspent value. When the vouchers arrived by email - they came as one £20 voucher and four £2 vouchers. The vouchers arrived within 30 seconds of ordering!
So the trick is, work out in advance roughly what you expect the meal will cost and only order enough vouchers to cover the cost. Maybe individual deals vary, but worth pointing out that the Pizza Express vouchers only cover payment for meals - drinks excluded.0 -
As others have said you do not get change and any value not used is lost.
I recently got Prezzo vouchers.
I changed up £2.50 of vouchers for £10 spend and did it several times. The balance of the vouchers then went on my next statement.
They expire after 6 months.0 -

Thank you guys. Regarding the 'balance of the vouchers', sorry, I didn't understand what was going into the next statement?0 -

Say you have a Clubcard voucher worth £10.
You use £2.50 of it to get a £10 Prezzo code.
The balance of £7.50 will be put back onto your Clubcard account and available to spend with your next statement.0 -

Ahh.... good point, I had not thought about that!
Never used this vouchers yet, but how do they work then? We are in the Christmas scheme, so we just received our vouchers for this year.
In the example above, does it mean that if I have a £10 tesco voucher and I exchange it for one £2.50 restaurant code, I won't be able to use the rest £7.50 until I get the next Xmas vouchers in Nov 2018?
Or could I get four £2.50 restaurant coupons either this month or in a few months without having to wait so long?0 -

I have no idea how the Christmas scheme works. You would need to ask Tesco.0 -

I'll see how to get in touch with Tesco these days to confirm how that scheme works.
And in a normal account, how does it work? ie, if you've got a £20 tesco voucher and just exchange £2.50 today (early November), won't the balance of £17.50 be applied to your tesco voucher straight away, so that if you want to use it again next week, you'll be able to do that?
By the description above it seems one will have to wait until the tesco vouchers which will become available next month, and until then, you wouldn't be able to use the same voucher with the outstanding balance of £17.50?0 -
If you exchange £2.50 from a £20 voucher the remaining £17.50 "change" will be added back to your next statement so will not be available to spend until next February.0
