Samsung Galaxy S8+ turning it off

I went a bit mad and indulged in a Samsung Galaxy S8+. In many ways it's brilliant, though not really used it much yet as waiting for my old number to arrive on Nov 8 (it was a pain getting the PAC out of old provider). My last Samsung is over 5 years old, and was a not new design back then, so I figure this one will prob last me around 10 years, so it's not as money wasting as it might sound? :rotfl: It will probably outlive me.
Managed to get iris recognition working most of the time, but made a too long password for when it doesn't.
I'm relatively happy to think maybe I can change the password, we'll see...
What really cheeses me off though is I have to either use iris recognition or password to turn it off! Why? I understand why to turn it on, but to turn it off seems a bit over the top. (need rolls eyes smiley here!)
Anyway, is there anyway I can get round that? When I want to turn my phone off I just want to turn it off! It's driving me crazy!

It's a security feature to stop a thief turning off the phone as soon as they have stolen it, which would stop the real owner from tracking/erasing it.0

If you want to turn it off go to ... Settings - Lock Screen and Security - Secure Lock Settings - Enter pin/password - Toggle Off 'Lock network and Security. ..... the other settings in there are self explanatory.
I've never had it enabled on my S8+.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thank you TadleyBaggie and RumRat for your very helpful replies. :A :T I'll consider whether to turn it off...
We have Grandtwins who are all electronic things obsessed, so it may be safer to leave the security on!
Good to know there is a way to turn it off, and also why default is that it's on.
Thank you again!
