  • Just a word of warning to anyone who is tempted by this, the DS lite is FAR superior to the old model and can be bought for not much more than this. If you really are on a tight budget then you are better off buying a used DS.

Far superior is a bit of an exaggeration....see here and decide

plus your getting a game which is worth over £20
I don't think a younger child would know the difference....
  • That's a fair point if it's for a young child (under 7?) but having used both sytems myself the lite is so much better to use with the brighter screens.

You can get a DS lite with nintendogs for 104.99 delivered (for the white one, 109.99 for black or pink) which admittedly is 50% more than for the original DS plus game.

Sorry I thought I posted the link earlier:

    http://www.wigi.co.uk/product.aspx?prodid=90

Although it's showing out of stock. I also made a mistake about the white and black model as they come with different games. Sorry!

I've done another search and you can get nintendogs chihuauhua (it's the cheapest one on it's own) and a pink ds lite from amazon for £113 delivered using supersaver delivery.

    HTH

I'm not sure it's really that superior, I mean each to his (or her) own, but as I DS Phat owner I tried a Lite and found it too cramped for my middle aged sausage-esq fingers... If / When my DS dies I'll probably buy a used phat than a new Lite as it's easier for me to play on.

Functionally they are identical, the lite has a brighter screen (Resolution is the same but the Lite looks sharper to my eyes) and supposedly battery life, but I never play my DS in a long enough session to flatten the battery so an absolute battery time is irrelevent most of the time, (the only exception being holiday flight.)
The only thing different I know if is the internet cartridge which is different for the phat and the lite, there is no fuctional difference but the size of the Lites memory add on that goes in the GBA port is smaller so to make it remain streamlined and not stick out. The Phat one will work but doesn't look at pretty.
