I would buy pre made ones from haberdashers or sometime places like wilkinson do a sheet of eight or so for about £1- £1.50.
Or try to make them like the pre made ones. Two loops and the ends crossed in the middle and secured with either another piece of ribbon or the shop ones have a gold twisty tag (like sandwich bag tag) or secure with sandwich tag and place ribbon over the top.0 -
I don't know if this is any help :

You might be able to cobble together a similar sort of bow-making frame from a couple of lengths of wooden dowel (or pencils, even) inserted into a wooden base.0 -
What kind of ribbon is it ?
Some ribbon is harder to use than others ,the best ribbon for Christmas trees IMO is wired edge it sits nicer.
I am trying to put into words how to make a bow but it's just not happening ,sorry !
Have you got a bow from something else that you could open and copy ?
PS have you tried to put a wire or something thinner than the ribbon your using around the middle to tie it ?0 -

This is how make my bows too.
*for your first bow cut a length of wired ribbon longer than you think you need (they take more ribbon than you think!!!) You then have a guide for measuring the rest of your bows.
*Rather than trying to make a bow shape, make a shape like on the tubular bells cover (can't think of any other way to describe it!!!!)
*Where the ribbon crosses over, pinch together, and wrap either a smaller piece of the same ribbon, or a thinner ribbon around the centre, and tie at the back.
*Because the ribbon is wired around the edges it stays in place while you try and shape it, so you don't need 5 pairs of hands to try and hold everything in place!!!0 -
Right I will try to tell you but you must be able to visualize it.
Get a length of ribbon either soft (normal) or wire edged.
Fold over until you get the whole length of the finished bow you need (just imagine winding wool)I normally make mine about 6"
Keep doing this normally about 6 times.
now double this over and find the center and cut a triangle out at each edge.
Should now look like a dicky bow, now tie in the center with some wire and slip your fingers into the center of the bow and grab the two loops and pull in opposite directions( just take the two ends of the bow and hold now pull one towards your body while pulling the other away from you,get into a rhythm and its there Viola!! ,now take the next layer and do the same, keep doing this then add some curled bits and you will have an amazing bow anyone would be proud of.
Now I would say try this with an old piece of ribbon first as it will take a few tries.
Good luck.0 -
