We tried the hot dogs in a flask on a 4.5-hour trip this Easter. The hotdogs themselves were great and it was a real treat to be able to have a nice, warm hotdog in the car after the journey rather than a burger in a dirty service station!

However, my flask STILL smells of hot dogs...

Try steradent or sterilising fluid, might help with smell

I shall be thinking of something similar in two weeks time as I have to take my DGS Jack out for the day to the University of Hertfordshire for the open day there. I certainly won't be spending a fortune on motorway food and thought that possibly hot cooked sausages wrapped in foil and some soft buttered rolls might keep the wolf from the door.I'll find out what soup he likes and do a flask of that as well and a large flask of coffee for me. Most Uni open days have free tea or coffee on tap so I'll take some ginger nut biscuits for us both.

We are planning on doing this for Christmas Day with friends. Much less stress and the hounds can have a good run around.

So I am watching this thread with interest for inspiration!

Me too! We decided to have a get together picnic between Christmas and New Year one year. Since we were all family and friends there was no 'show' involved. People packed up their bits and pieces left over from Christmas which would probably have been thrown out eventually. Result was a great al fresco picnic served from our car boots with a chance to try items that I wouldn't have thought of buying for ourselves! Very MSE :)
