Notice period during probation?

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.
My partner is currently still in a 3 month probation period...which ends on 14th November.
He has been offered another job which he wants to accept as its closer to home and better hours.
However, looking at his terms and conditions on his current job..this is what it says about termination..
"No notice will be required to be given by either party during the first four weeks of your employment. Thereafter, 4 weeks notice will be required to be given by either party. After four complete years' service the statutory notice period will apply"
This doesn't mention anything about termination during probation though? Every other company he has worked for, its always been 1 week during probation, as we thought that's the whole point of probation is a shorter notice period for both parties...
He was planning to hand in a weeks notice on Monday.
His new employer would like him to start sooner, what's the worst case scenario that could happen really with his current employer?

Under probationary period passed I found it to be a week.
I had a sticky time last job at 10 weeks I left but that was only because it turned out more holiday was allowed then accured - at which point there was a claw back of wages to be agreed or work longer notice period to pay back.
All ended up ok I think, still got an official reference letter and then letter further saying we agree to release you early as I chose not to cancel annual leave/days off arranged before I'd come by another job offer. Pretty tough though waking up to start new job when should have been time off - don't rate starting early or as soon as possible anymore. Turns out I started at new company with old job holder still there by days even when the screws were put on to start early. I was left thinking what was the hurry to be honest and left only hoping the ex employer didn't black list me.0 -
The worst case scenario is that his current employer could require him to stick to his contract (which does specify 4 weeks after the first month). With any luck (not the greatest time of year, though....) his current employer might accept less notice. I think it's worth TRYING a week's notice to see what happens. What is the holiday situation like - is there any which could be used as part of notice period?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

He has been asking about his holidays for weeks now, without a definite answer. But since the start of employment 14th August, he has used 5 days already.
But according to our own calculations, he is entitled to 7 days...so 2 days left to use.0 -
