Stating the obvious here a washing up bowl is a barrier between the drain and sink. No matter how clean your sink is there are still health issues and everything goes down the drain. Therefore, I would not dream in using the sink only.
    Always a washing up bowl.
  • Its a yah for me. I like that the bowl is plastic so less likely to break glass in it and cutlery is not banging against the metal of the sink.

Even worse than a washing up bowl, I hate them things ! Mine just sit on the (shiny) stainless drainer.
How do you manage to stack the crockery so that it doesn't slip off and break? I've never mastered that. :(
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Definitely no washing up bowl if you have a dishwasher, have you seen how grotty they get on the bottom?! A cleaning job you don't need!

Yes for me. Ancient little square bowl for veg washing and for odds and ends that don't go in the dishwasher. The bowl itself goes regularly in the dishwasher for a good degrease and sterilise.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • How do people wash up without a bowl? Where do you tip the soaking dregs or rinsing water?...

  • I use a washing up bowl AND clean the bottom after its been used!! Only takes a second as I swill out the sink after pouring the washing up water away.

Reminds me of something I heard recently about Americans being a bit confused as to why brits basically have a bowl in a bowl (sink) and it did make me wonder why I do have a washing up bowl. We have a dishwasher for most things and for things that can't go in it, I wash generally under the tap so don't really need the bowl. I'm thinking I might also retire it under the sink and see if I miss it at all.

It refers to Marie Kondo, she's a Japanese organising consultant and organiser. She's written a number of books on organisation and decluttering.
