Expiry of a fitness for work note

If a note is issued Wednesday gone, 1st November and the fit note specifies "two weeks" and also from the date of "01/11/17" then when is the expiry?
Two weeks to me is 14 days but as far as i'm aware you can self certify yourself for 1 week which is 5 days? Or am i wrong with that? So based on that i'm not sure if we're talking 10 days such as business days or 14 days as in calendar days? I know it's something so simple but still want to make sure i get the true understanding.
So on the example given, you would've worked Tues 31 Oct, the note would cover from and including Weds 1st Nov for 14 days meaning your final day off work would be Tuesday 14th November, back in to work Wednesday 15th November?
And do you need to be signed back to work or can you just call your employer up and say i feel well enough now? This isn't covered in the contract of employment, it only states you can self certify for the initial week and after that you will need a doctors note and to keep the company updated along the way.

You don't stop being sick at the weekends....0

If you have a fit note from the doctor then you don't need to self certify. That is only if you haven't got a doctors note.0

You do not need to be signed back onto work by your GP. If the cert says 2 weeks from 1/11 the final date covered would be the 15th.0

The Fit Note covers the 14 days specified.
You need to self certify the Tuesday before it started.0 -
If a Wednesday was your first day off sick then you will be due back on the Wednesday 2 weeks later.0
