British Gas Discount

Hi, as many others did, I watched Martin on Good Morning Britain yesterday, where there was an article on getting a 12% discount on Dual fuel accounts, with British Gas, but only if you 'ask' for it.
I am currently changing to Sainsbury Energy, which is a British Gas partner.
Can some one please clarify for me how to get the discount, as I got two responses...
1. I have to go to British Gas on line tariff and change to them directly...
2. We can't do any discounts, the advice is in correct...
Am I being given the fob off?

Tony

New. British Gas 12% price CUT... yet you only get it if you ask for it

    - The energy giant's launched new tariffs, far cheaper than its normal rate, for NEW and EXISTING customers
    - If willing to go elsewhere, you can cut your price by MUCH more
    ...

Read all about it in this week's MSE email

I think you have to apply for the tariff through Cheap energy club.
The tariff is the all online January 2019.
I know uswitch also has the tariff as well as it came up 2nd best when I did a comparison.

That's really surprisiing, and contrary to what MSE seem to be reporting.

Did you open up all of the filters to ensure you checked the whole of market?

Obviously costs will depend on region and usage, but I just did a comaprison via the CEC and found even when I restrict it to the Big suppliers only (to try and find the BG tariff), they are beaten by both Eon & SP.

When I look at the electric side only, EON & SP will beat the BG tariff for all usages (based on E7 and Eastern region)
    - I'm not suggesting Eon & SP are the cheapest either, there will be smaller suppliers that beat them on cost I am sure.

For gas, BG do seem competitive amongst the Big Suppliers, but again I'm sure they can be beaten by smaller suppliers

(Eon & SP also offer dual fuel discounts too, which the BG tariff does not)

Yeah I wasn't expecting BG to be 2nd cheapest in my area. The one which was cheaper was Bulb and £42 cheaper on a variable tariff.
