Probation period & Notice

Hey all,

I have a question surrounding notice periods. I have a probationary period where I currently work, the company feels things are going very well - unfortunately - I beg to differ. I've raised concerns a few times and feel these are not really being addressed.

I had a "probation meeting" put into my calendar around a week ago to catch up how things were going on both sides. I voiced my concerns still, however no hint at wishing to resign.

After much thought, I've decided I wish to resign. My probation officially ends next week as per the contract. Does this date hold no weight any longer since I've had the "probation review" held prior to that date, as a result I am now subject to the full notice period?

Just curious, as I have never had a "probation review" in advance of the probation period being up. My line manager said it was because they had a holiday booked that week.

Non the less, I am willing to negotiate a term, not the full amount but one which benefits both of us (Until the end of this year) as I do not wish to leave them in the lurch with such a busy period upon us.

Thanks

If you wish to hand in your resignation why not do it in a timely manner so that your employment ends at the end of the year?

If you're willing to work until the end of the year does it really make any difference whether you're still in probation or not?

Unless your notice is more than 2 months I don't really see the issue.

If it's one month hand in your notice at the end of this month.

It's nice that you are willing to negotiate how much of your notice period you are willing to stay for. If your employer turns around and says they are happy to throw you out of the door this minute because that is convenient for them, would that also be ok? Or are they expected to abide by the employment contract, whereas you aren't? Your notice period is your notice period. If your employer is good enough to negotiate it, then fine, but this isn't a right and it isn't something that you get to ignore because it isn't convenient to you.
