Teacher Training...Application stage

Anyone else applying or applied for Sept 2018 entry?

Primary or Secondary?

Have you had an interview, best way to prepare? What activities did you have to complete?

Good luck all who are applying, seems a lot of negativity around teaching but it's only seems to be the ones with negative experiences that post on social media?

All the best!

Depending which scheme that you are doing, you will need to work for two weeks in a school/schools. This and reading are the best ways to prepare.

I recommend TES for general reading - you can read many articles online at tes.co.uk but the buying a copy in print or online is best. There is also a largest twitter community - make sure that you a have a separate account for this though.

Again different schemes different procedures. No-one will expect you to know everything though so don't feel that you have to be an expert. Expect questions about why you want to teach though, and 'what are the biggest issues in teaching at the moment?' No right or wrong answers as long as you give a balanced answer and explain why.

I qualified a while ago now and it is hard work. The work load is immense and the holidays are used for marking books, running interventions, making displays. But you do the job because you love it, because of the students and because it is a career that it a vocation. You couldn't do this job if your heart wasn't in it.

I don't know if any of this helped but I hope so.

If no one is posting positive experiences, that suggests they are few and far between.

I know several teachers that have left the profession, some shortly after training and some after 15 years of teaching. The majority have experienced mental health problems as a result of the undue stress and lack of management support.

Get some experience, talk to teachers (and not just those trying to recruit you) and understand the demands of the role.
