Hi
I've been lurking on here for a while and just managed to pluck up the courage to post!
Anyway I was wanting to make jelly with some leftover raspberries but I've always used the just add water stuff before. I bought some VegGel (I think its called) the other day but haven't a clue how to use it to make jelly! Does anyone know?

Hi Purplewombat
I've only ever used gelatine before not vege-gel, surely the packet has instructions for use on it ?

I've never used it, either. I've done a google and found that people have problems with it not setting, or leaving a liquid layer below the jelly layer.
Supercook state that it cannot be directly substitiuted for gelatine, and you should follow the packet instructions.
Sorry not to be able to be of more help

I think its to be used as a jelly like topping- like on top of flans with strawberries like you had when you were a little kid.
If you live near a Jewish area have a look in one of the shops there. It should have a label on that says parev (ie no milk or meat in it). A vegan friend of mine gets loads of stuff in Jewish shops.

I buy flavoured vegetarian jelly packets from Asda (own brand I think - two stuck together packets). Can't remember how much they are but they are very cheap and set quickly0

That's useful to know- Rowntree used to do vegetarian jelly but they either stopped making it or they stopped selling it in my local sainsburys.0 -
There is this brand of vege jelly,
http://www.auravita.com/products/aura/juwh10004.asp
available in most healthfood shops - it's like standard jelly but vege. It's v good and pretty natural - my kids love it. The problem with the kosher stuff, which I also buy sometimes, is that although it is vegetarian, it has more artificial additives so I try and get the other one if I can. I also bought some vegegel and have it sitting in my cupboard as too scared to use it, having read negative stuff about it too.
Let us knows how it goes - if it works I might be brave!0
