Debt Advice Help

  • Hi there

    This SOA seems more realistic.

I notice your cash savings have disappeared. Are you planning to put it away for your Uncle?

Have you made plans to do with Christmas? I am sorry to ask but its not far away now.

Your Council Tax still seems high. Have you applied for the single person's discount? If it is correct, do you have room for a lodger for a while?

    Now comes the difficult bit......

I understand you had to spend after the divorce. However .......

You say you have put £500 on the Monzo card but you haven't got enough in your budget.

I have an idea that your SOA is still aspirational. I would suggest you do the difficult thing and trawl through you bank and credit card statements for the last four months at least to see where your spending lies. Those accidental bought in lunches, coffees and those other extras we treat ourselves to.

I hope this doesn't upset you, that is not my intention. I am just making some suggestions based on my own personal experience.

Good luck with the debt free journey

    Thanks for your post Pauline.

Regards Christmas, yes I plan to pay less off my cards next month and keep some cash aside for Christmas.

I didn't have cash savings, it was an error originally. This was just £750 I had on hand after being paid.

I have got single persons discount on my council tax. It should be £130 a month but I'm paying for say 5 months worth in the space of 4 months just because of when the direct debit could be started.

I do have a spare room but unsure if I can take in a lodger as I rent. Early part of next year my girlfriend may move in which would help towards the rent and bills and enable to pay more off my cards. Or we may move in together somewhere else when my tenancy ends in July.

I know where it all goes, eating out, drinking out, coffees, lunches at work etc. But I'm already reducing this right down because I know I need to and taking lunch from home etc. I have a very busy job as well and often end up at work late, so finding time for it all is a struggle at times and I end up picking food up late on the way home etc.

How about getting a small collection of "instant meals" of some sort in your desk drawer then? Cans of soup, some crackers, those instant couscous or pasta things you just add water to...none of them are exactly gastronomic delicacies but at the very least if you find yourself at work late they will take the edge off enough to stop you just grabbing something on the run? I seem to recall a well know phrase - something about failing to prepare means preparing to fail...?
