Cheap Train Tickets

When I look at the trainline website ( or others ) and there are no cheap tickets available I am never quite certain if
1) All the cheap tickets have been sold
or
2) The cheap tickets have not been released yet.

Is this just me being stupid ?
Can anyone offer some guidance ?

What do you mean by "Cheap tickets" is the 1st. question.
The cheapest tickets are usually "Advance" tickets they usually go on sale 12 weeks ahead. They are for a specific train on a specific date. Not all train companies offer "Advance" tickets.


Best to do your search 11 to 12 weeks ahead of when you want to travel and don't buy tickets from "the traine line", they charge a booking fee. My favourite search method is National Rail http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
