Non-SA repayments issued direct to bank.

Thought I should make people aware that due to changes imposed by the banking industry to the cheque clearing processes, from 30 October 2017, banks will no longer accept payments in the form of a cheque (payable order) issued directly to the bank from HMRC to be deposited into a customers account.
This means that taxpayers will no longer be able to request that cheque payments are sent directly to their bank and will instead have to receive the payment themselves and then deposit it to their bank manually.
This only affects cheque type payments issued from HMRC. Any BACS payment options are unaffected. i. e. Self assessment refunds and repayments for the last tax year where the calculation offers the option of claiming the refund via the Personal Tax Account.

Which is what most taxpayers wanted to happen anyway! It caused a lot of confusion when HMRC sent cheques directly to the taxpayers bank, including lost cheques etc.0
