PS4 Pro/Xbox one X Upgrade

If you haven't got a 4K TV, and aren't planning to then I wouldn't bother upgrading. The Xbox One X is the newer, more powerful console. But it's also more expensive.
You have to think about what console you play most. PS4 Pro has the 'pro mode' which boosts all games regardless of whether they've been patched. HDR is available across the standard/slim/pro and the One S/X.
Xbox have the 4K bluray player, but unless you find yourself buying a 4K TV and actually watching movies on it.. there won't be any benefits to you. Playstation has the VR which works pretty well I guess.
PS4 has far better exclusives (this isn't an opinion..they simply have more, highly rated titles) like Horizon, God of War, Gran Turismo, Last of Us, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank with a lot more highly anticipated titles coming soon. These are all optimized for for the Pro and HDR. Whilst the Xbox does have some good titles coming out soon, they technically aren't 'exclusive' because they'll all be on PC too.
There is a big argument for 'True 4K' on the XB1X vs '4K checkerboard' on the PS4 Pro, but the reality is you can barely notice the difference. And from what i've seen multiplatform titles use checkerboarding and pretty much run and look the same across both.
If you are planning to get a 4K TV, then I would pick up the PS4 Pro and spend that bit extra on a proper HDR TV, and by that I mean a HDR 10 bit panel, 1000 nit brightness minimum. Anything less than that doesn't give you the 'true' HDR effect that everyone rambles on about. Samsung 7000 series is a good starting point.
One other thing, the original PS4 sounded like a jet engine when it got hot and had a noisy drive. Both the slim and pro are both very quiet. That alone was a big reason I upgraded.0 -
Also keep in mind. You dont need to go One X for 4K,the One S covers that.
The One X is really only 'required' if you want the extra graphics in supported games really0
