  • The French make a great club sandwich with tinned sardines , and you could easily substitute pilchards. Basically you mix fromage fraise, a little butter, lemon juice and some dijon mustard, then fork in the pilchards to the mixture and spread on some toasted bread.
  • I make a pilchard lasagne, which is basically layers of tinned pilchards, homemade tomato pasta sauce and lasagne sheets, topped off with a tin of low fat condensed mushroom soup and a sprinkling of grated cheese. I also include a tin of anchovies in one of the layers but then I'm weird :D

    We like them in lasagne too.
    Yesterday we had pilchard quiche which my daughter loves.
    Just empty a tin into a pastry lined pie dish,cover with a grated cheese and beaten eggs mixture(can add milk to this but it makes it is much chunkier without). Bake in the oven for about 35 minutes or till top is not at all liquid when punctured.
