Wrong birthday year on mortgage refinance application.

So in the process of refinancing. Things were going good. Signed closing docs with notary. That night in reviewing my closing documents noticed that well the broker when doing my application over the phone put in my wrong year of birth. Why do mortgage brokers do that. Credit ran. Due to fund in a few days. They are now telling me another credit pull needs to be done. Then they will review closing paperwork and try to get underwriter to approve and funder to approve without pulling new docs. I understand some of it..but come on. Why do brokers fill in your information and pull credit without you reviewing your information first. I asked a different broker and he said his funder would be okay with simply a verification and just resign the application correction and Patriot act form after verification. Now I feel like I'm going to get the run around. These people seem to be too busy to manage hickups even when they are at fault.

Not sure how things work in the US as this is a purely UK site, but you'd be amazed at the number of times we've been given incorrect or omitted data, such as middle names.

However, prior to submitting a mortgage application we obtain and check identification and evidence of address to ensure all matches.

Copies of all sales documentation are issued to the borrower so we can ensure nothing is incorrect beyond the first few days of the life of an application.

'Broker dyslexia' is non unusual, we have all done it.

Some people call it human error.

Brokers often make mistakes on an application and don't answer all thre questions fully. This is not unusual.
  • Mistakes happen..yes. I guess my main focus is the borrowers need to insist on seeing the app prior to hard credit pull.
My financing just funded. However the nightmare was my credit took two hard pulls because of the mishap. Next time I know what to be cautious of and what to ask for.
End of the story is. In the end I got the loan. It was funded a day later...no big deal. But the stress as someone really counting on the loan was horrible. I had to go through a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and most Monday not knowing what was going to happen.
So just be careful and ask to check. This will save time and points on your very important credit scores.
