Children's pension on divorce later in life

Good afternoon.
Could anyone please help me?
I'm considering starting up a pension for my 13 year old lad but unsure about something.
If for example I pay into his pension for 20 years and he gets married then. If he were to divorce say 10 years later (hope this doesn't happen) would his ex fife be entitled to half of everything Ive paid in for him or what would the situation be.
Don't wish to jinx things but obviously I want my son to have the benefit if that situation were to ever arise.
Thank you

That probably depends whether his divorce is under Scots Law or the Law of England and Wales. Under the latter you could probably say goodbye to half of it, under the former not.Free the dunston one next time too.0

I think only a pension accrued during their life together would be shared but check with solicitors. I would not worry about it as if you do there is no point in any savings made for children or assets passed to them ever. The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
Using your logic your son would never look for a good job or save any money either.0

When I divorced (English Law) my total pension pot was considered and split accordingly- My pot total, her pot total added together and split 50:50, meaning she got some 40% from my pot into hers. The judge took the view that it is simply an asset that needs dividing equally.
However don't over think or worry about it, better to save and give your son a head start in my view, if you worry about the what ifs or maybes you'll end up doing nothing, he may marry and never divorce!CRV1963- Light bulb moment Sept 15- Planning the great escape- aka retirement!0 -
It really isnt important. AS any asset be it pension, ISA, savings, investments, home etc will be split anyway.
So dont let the divorce tail wag the dog.
instead think of other savings your child might need Before marriage/divorce. Ie a JISA to use for university, home deposit etc.0
