Sainsbury's application - Technical issues

in Credit cards
I've recently been looking at getting a new 0% Purchase credit card and after looking into all the details I decided to apply for the Sainsbury's card. Around a week or so ago I made an application via the website, going through all the pages only to get a message at the end mentioning something about technical issues, and to perhaps try applying by phone instead. I left it a good few days and applied again online with the same details etc and frustratingly the same message appeared again.
Fast forward a few days and and to my surprise I received a letter informing me that Sainsbury's have rejected my credit application, though it appeared that the application hadn't been successfully submitted.
It's not the rejection that worries me, these things happen, I know that I have a strong credit rating and that I'm on a very sound financial footing. What concerns me is that it's very possible that I now have two rejected credit applications from the same lender, in the same month on my credit file.
I have called them, and after apologising etc, they took a look at my details and said that they only have evidence of one application and that the decision is correct, to try calling back again later in the week in case the second application has appears on their system.
I guess what I'd like to know is, how bad could this be for my credit file? Has anyone else experienced the above, or something similar? Can I still go ahead and make another application elsewhere without causing damage to my credit rating etc?

Have you checked noddle or clearscore to see how many searches?0

I have checked both my Noddle and Experian accounts, neither show the credit search or a reduction in my credit score. However I only received my latest Noodle report around a week ago, so I wouldn't expect the search to appear for a few more weeks yet as I don't believe it's immediately updated.0
