I have a sister who lives in (prosperous) Bergamo, and they teach English conversation classes....they say even there, the young want to learn English and get out of Italy as soon as they can...my relatives down in the south of italy live in a very different country now, than they did...I can't see Italy staying as a united country if things don't change

You could say the same about the UK and its North-South divide.

Nothing to do with the EU. Although the brextremists on here desperately would like it to be. ;)
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

No worries. It's a mistake easily made, as shown in countless posts made by our resident Europhobes. :)

Really? Then tell us please what language so many British are learning and where they are so desperate to head towards? Remoaners on here desperately want that to be true of course and yet despite the (imagined) horrors of Brexit there has been no exodus and even the number of British seeking EU passports is tiny but, as usual, those remoaners for some strange reason usually neglect that small fact.

Nothing to do with the EU? :rotfl: :rotfl: Well judging by how many Italians voted for parties at odds with the EU I'd have to say that as with our referendum, the majority disagree with the EU.
Although of course remoaners would have to deny that, just on principle. ;)

oh no, this is definitely in the last 15 years or so and it's a lot to do with the EU, and the euro and the influx of 'asylum seekers'...things have changed fast. But the Italians always have this attitude of carrying on living life as if none of this matters, but that is becoming harder and harder to do... yes anecdotal, but its the reality for many Italians
