Hi,
I was today offered a position for a job with a desired start date two weeks from Monday coming. My current employers are aware of my desire to leave the company as I’ve not been happy for a while. I have a 4 week notice period for my current role however have two weeks holidays pro rata owed- which from previous colleagues experience will be incorporated into the notice period- effectively giving me 2 weeks left to work, but my official leaving date won’t be until 4 weeks from Monday. Will there be any additional implications, tax aside if I start work on the requested date could this have any implications when it comes to references because of the overlap etc. Or is this a fairly common practice. First time I’ve ever actually moved jobs in 10 years so very out of touch/new to this.
Thanks

It's primarily the tax - you won't have a P45 to give to your new employer, so you'll have to complete a form saying that this is NOT your only or main job. In the first month, you'll be taxed on the new job without the benefit of a personal allowance.
As soon as you get your P45, you hand that in to your new employer, their payroll deals with it, tax should be sorted.
Sort the overlap in future job hunting by just giving the month and year of start and finish.
It's not uncommon. But your employer has to agree to let you take the leave within the notice period. so negotiation may be required.Signature removed for peace of mind0
