Has anyone wild camped in Northern Ireland?
If so, where would you recommend that is not 'illegal' as such and we will not be chased off the land by an angry farmer type person.
Thanks in anticipation

I don't think you have a right to wild camp anywhere in NI... It's not legal to camp without permission.
That said, I don't think people make too much fuss in the Mournes, so long as you leave no trace.
Organisations like the National Trust and Forestry Service do not appear to support camping outside of their recognised (and paid for!) sites.0 -
Some discussion on the matter at http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=1sp0i5i6r4c0vhsfcdfbo19md0&topic=629.0 .
Also, might be worth asking DofE organisers how they overcome any restrictions, as I'm fairly sure that their expedition groups do, at times, 'wild camp', especially in the Mournes and Antrim hills.butterfly )i(0 -
Was wild camping in the Mournes earlier this year. It's reasonably flat (and sheltered) at the shore of Lough Shannagh but be warned it's a good 3-4 hour hike in. During the summer there tend to be lots of D of E groups there but there should still be enough space for you.
Also, bring a midge net. Next to the water they are an absolute nightmare. A bottle of rum helped to keep them away though!0 -

Head nets also recommended in the Mournes, just for walking!0 -

Look up the routes for the Moyle or Ulster way, Moyle way is a decent 2 day hike and forms part of the much larger Ulster way, plenty of camping spots to be found that are of the beaten track, map and compass as well as protective outdoor clothing and boots are recommended.Norn Iron Club member No 3530 -

People sometimes camp out next to the river here. You can tell by the tomato plants which sprout up in the summer next to the hedge.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
