Is there any logic in refusing to allow 4.99 to pay on a card when they have a 5 min?

A shop today won't put the transaction through unless I bought something else and couldnt just add 1p to my total.
I presume they do this because of transaction fees? Does 4.99 Vs 5.00 really make much difference?

No idea but I have had places that will charge me £5 when the goods are less. Nothing wrong if you agree to it, probably someone not used to the request.0
