The natural next port of call would be unwrapped mainstream investments. £120k of unwrapped mainstream investments targeting growth potential rather than yield may not generate any income tax liability at all if you use both dividend allowances.

Agreed. And not only can the couple use unwrapped investments and fill ISAs but they can presumably ladle money into the spouse's SIPP, and buy £50k of Premium Bonds each, and - in one form or another - buy some gold. In other words, diversify.

For what it's worth friends of ours have just used their big TFLS to buy a cottage in north Norfolk. Bird-watchers, you see. Put otherwise, spending some of it is allowed too.
Free the dunston one next time too.
  • Yes fair points about shooting up the risk scale and I can see there are other vehicles I can use before getting to the riskier end.

I don't have premium bonds but I do have some ISAs and some unwrapped shares and cash in a 123 account, and I have gold and also some BTL property too. I also have had a dabble in P2P but it has been hard work for the smallish investments I have made (about 3k).

I have at the very least a year before the LTA limit becomes an issue, so enough time to think things through. Just hope we dont have any major shocks in the budget in a few weeks.
