I too am a saucepan soup maker and I just leave it to simmer until the veg is soft then chuck it into my blender .I have never stirred soup in my life unless its when I chuck the lended stuff back in the saucepan after blending and then its only four or five stirs and its done. £50.plus seems a lot for a gadget, but then I am an old fashioned cook and I prefer to improvise with what I have in the cupboard already A £5.00 stick blender would do the same job0

I find it impossible to set something to simmer on my electric cooker without standing and stirring, it was much easier with gas. Plus I can set this going without having to remember to take it off the heat etc. and get on with other things.
My current one is great, just too big for one person.0 -
Salter do a 1.1 litre soupmaker, I've seen it on Amazon for £50

I was going to post earlier, but had to go out, I don't see that you have to justify yourself to anyone here, you asked for advice that's all, I actually have similar problems with the standing and stirring and sometimes gripping the stick blender is a no-no. I had been happily making soup in a pan for 49 years (yes I have run my own home for that length of time), but a year ago I realised that there is more than one way of skinning a cat so to speak and bought a soup maker, OH helps cutting the tough veg up as needed and absolutely loves the variety of tasty soups that we make:D:D
Lucky those who are able to do the OS ways that's all I can say!The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

Ah, electric cooker, you have my sympathy! It's an interesting thread you started, Soupdragon, I had no idea soupmakers did it all, as it were, and now i can see the attraction! A small one is a great idea in the circs.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Interesting thread. I don't use one as I don't like soup
Why can't you just put less it? Do they only work if you make a full batch? Every gadget I own you can put in as much or little as you like.
This one has min / max measures on the side https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005FM51KW/ref=s9_acsd_zwish_hd_bw_b3rSUJj_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-4&pf_rd_r=NM4RVZQPFRRRN6QZC42T&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=d2ab7e27-2d15-56fc-aa99-4933814fb58b&pf_rd_i=3538334031
EDIT: saw this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MFX5M4U/ref=s9_acsd_top_hd_bw_b3rSUJj_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=NM4RVZQPFRRRN6QZC42T&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=d2ab7e27-2d15-56fc-aa99-4933814fb58b&pf_rd_i=3538334031 you can make 800ml but then looked at the price  would be cheaper just to thrown away the extra from your current one.0 -
My wife used to be a chop it , saucepan boil /simmer for 1-2 hours or however long it took
blend it , clean saucepan , clean blender etc.
Now got one of the argos ones below, chop veg etc, 20 minutes in soup maker soup ready only 1 item to clean but it will do it for you on self clean mode
I haven't worked out yet which uses less electricity
2 hours on cooker ring or 20minutes soup maker
