    Thanks UV...I appreciate that...

There is no handbook. It is a paperless workplace. I feel so angry. I have never had a problem before, mainly because employers have been up front in every way. What makes me more angry is IF the HR person I spoke to 2 weeks ago understood this issue then at least I could have opted out in time to avoid the deduction this month.

I understand that which is why I said
Much will be in an employee "handbook" and other documents which may well be in electronic form.

Legally, putting that information on the company intranet is probably sufficient.

All I can suggest is that you complain, with a formal grievance if absolutely necessary, pointing out that you had been trying to opt out well inside the required timeframe.

Why should the OP explain their reasons or justify what they want to do? They have asked a very specific question about process and that should be all they need to do.

This isn't a forum full of professionals hired to answer specific questions. This is an online forum full of people who choose to share their knowledge and discuss topics.

So far the OP has completely ignored all the posts where people have asked why they are opting out. They are are also posting online anonymous so there is no reason why they couldn't outline the reasons why they wanted to opt out.

The OP can't be even bothered to even acknowledge other people asking questions but expect people to answer theirs.

Maybe the HR person did ask you if you wanted to opt out but you may have just completely ignored the question, just like your ignoring when people ask why you want to opt out :rotfl: .

It doesn't even have to be a detailed answer one poster above simply posted a few words saying why they opted out. Is it really that difficult to write a few words :rotfl:

Why are the reasons for OP wanting to opt out relevant?

That was my point too. There are people on the board who are far more interested in digging for information which is irrelevant to the question asked, than they are in simply answering the question. Reminiscent of the !!!!!s who would film somebody bleeding to death rather than trying to help.
If the OP had wanted to explain his/her reasons surely they would have done so either in the original post or one of the early follow ups.

Like i said on my post this isn't any kind of official question answering forum. This is a money saving discussion forum where we discuss money saving matters. So asking why they want to opt out is perfectly reasonable for this type of discussion.

TELLIT01 you comparison is pretty ridiculous considering asking the OP isn't hurting them and there is no reason why they can't tell us considering that they are anonymous.

Plus your complaining I'm not helping but why is it wrong that I'm not answering their questions but ok for them to completely ignore the people who ask why.

You two must be pretty boring to talk to if you just stick to only answering specific questions with only 100% relevant discussion about the question and any deviation is strictly forbidden :rotfl:

Many thanks UV. Clearly too fuming to have read your post accurately in the first place. I will go back and look at intranet today, if I have a moment. The last time I looked I read that I would get a letter from the pension provider and then have to opt out within a month of the date of the letter, hence my original running around like a headless chicken in order to do that! I really appreciate your focused and measured responses.

Also thanks to Masomnia...and to clarify - the 'why' is not something I wanted to discuss on this forum...only the 'how'

And now that I have finally spoken to someone in HR who gave me specific answers to my questions, I am more informed. More frustrated...but informed!

If 'boring' is sticking to the question asked and not getting hooked up in areas which are irrelevant to that question, 'boring' is a badge I will carry with pride:). Over the years I've been in far too many meetings when some idiot drags the discussion away from what it should be and the situation descends into meaningless waffle.
  • I think, having pointed out to the OP that opting out is not necessarily a wise move, then the question of why they wish to is no-one else's business.

Yes i agree in a meeting at work it is important to stick to the topics at hand and resolve the issue as everyone only has limited time. But the difference is at work we are paid to do that and paid to be professional.

This is an online forum and nobody posting in this thread is getting paid so i see no reason why we can't have a discussion.

Let's say for example you were talking to someone and they asked you where the best place to get travel insurance from was for a holiday to the USA. A normal reply would be to tell them where they could look for insurance and then ask where about's they were going. If they then replied "sorry but i don't see how it is relevant to the question" i would find that a very strange response, but presumably you would find that normal?.

Well then your lucky that other people wanted to discuses the topic with you because if everyone had the same attitude as you then you wouldn't have got any answers.

Other people have taken the time to answer your questions and i see no reason why you can't say why you want to opt out considering it's anonymous. Your reply may even be useful to other people who are considering opting out but haven't heard of anyone doing it for the similar reasons.

I find it bazaar how you won't discuss why you want to opt out but you have given out much much more personal information in other posts on this site :rotfl:
