According to my first post.
in November we had 500 in savings
In December 800 in house fund
As of today (Januarys savings)
2250 saved towards house.
Not including what is in the house money box. This is after budgeting for January
Have made some small overpayments to the loan only about £5 (what was the spare few pound left after rounding up to the nearest 10 in savings and our expenditure for January)June 17 £16,000 debt ~ nov 18 DEBT FREE •June 21 £16,308 debt / july 22 debt free •Original mortgage free date 01/06/2059 current mortgage free date 01/05/20460 -

Thankyou Jamiedodger .. Good luck to you too
It really is. We have a large goal by the end of the year which is probably impossible but to even get to 10 or 15k would be amazing!
Happy New Year to you!June 17 £16,000 debt ~ nov 18 DEBT FREE •June 21 £16,308 debt / july 22 debt free •Original mortgage free date 01/06/2059 current mortgage free date 01/05/20460 -
I need to schedule in When we will paint the hall and finish the tiling in there when I get my next rota for January. I think im just going to finish the tiles and re do the ones that aren't laid well instead of paying out for carpet
Also realised eldest has another residental trip with school next year so need to factor in that into the budget.
Another Thing.
I realised on the first page of this diary I aimed to save 10k . Whereas now we are hoping to save 15-20k by this time next year. 20k would be pushing it. Would mean Id have to get overtime at work regularly and sticking to an Extreamly tight budget but we will see.
At the moment I hope to save
5k by April
10k by August
15k by December
If we can save more amazing . If we don't quiet hit the targets and haven't been wasting money in not going to beat myself up about it.
I'm lucky in the sense we all enjoy the less expensive. Things in life. For example I'm greatful to be able to have a bath in peace every now and again or a good night sleep a duvet day or trip to. The park with the kids or small home improvements all makes me feel good.
We don't drink. Not on a regular basis anyway. And dont eat out or get takeaways often anymore and don't miss it.
We are smokers but we. Have cut down and plan to quit in January completely.
We sound really boring :rotfl:
But we aren't and we are all happyJune 17 £16,000 debt ~ nov 18 DEBT FREE •June 21 £16,308 debt / july 22 debt free •Original mortgage free date 01/06/2059 current mortgage free date 01/05/20460 -
Still no prices released for the development in the village. But found an article about one the companies other developments and if the pricing is about the same. We are looking at needing around a 6k deposit by July / August 2018. If we can afford to do this option then we have decided we will go down the part buy route to stay in the village and later on look at possibly selling and remorgaging to buy the traditional route or seeing if we can staircase to 100% ownership but we wouldn't remorgage to staircase we would buy 5-10% at a time with cash.
That's the overall plan anyway. If we cant afford the part buy we are going to go down the traditional route and buy outside the area. (something we really want to avoid If possible) and save enough to put down a 20% deposit. So overall for now we still need to aim for that 10k + by AugustJune 17 £16,000 debt ~ nov 18 DEBT FREE •June 21 £16,308 debt / july 22 debt free •Original mortgage free date 01/06/2059 current mortgage free date 01/05/20460 -
spoke to partner he's going to transfer a set amount each month to savings after what is left after his bills it's not much but it all adds up. We have £150 in the money box so a total for January is 2400 in our house fund.June 17 £16,000 debt ~ nov 18 DEBT FREE •June 21 £16,308 debt / july 22 debt free •Original mortgage free date 01/06/2059 current mortgage free date 01/05/20460

A great start :T
Good luck giving up smoking, my dh still does (no where near me - I can't stand it!) it will be hard but so worth it and think of all that extra cash for the house fundMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I'm in a similar boat, but aiming to cutback on drinking rather than smoking in the new year! It's a health thing as much as anything else, but the extra £100 or so a month will soon add up! You've made some great inroads so far

thankyou both for taking the time to reply. I hope you both have a lovely 2018
I'm going to give the quitting smoking my best attempt. I've been a smoker since I was 15Bar pregnancies so it wont be easy. And although I'll be glad to no longer need to smoke and I'll save a small fortune it's nights like tonight at work where I was left nothing to do for 20 Mins at a time a smoking break to help kill the time was great.
I'm going to carry on saving as much as possible over the next few months.
Few questions if anyone is able to help.
Have they brought in the thing for no stamp duty yet for first time buyers. ? If not is it based on the full market value of a property Or would we not be liable to pay it if we did a part buy for 100k for example with a property value of 220k could someone clarify for me how it works. I'm very tired and google is confusing me.
Also how much are we looking at in solicitor fees and other essential moving costs. We don't have a Chain as are ftbers moving to another empty property if we do the part buy.
We won't need to hire a van so that's one cost saved. We would need Carpet if we were to buy a new build but happy to leave it until all other costs have been paid before spending out on carpet. Etc
Just trying to work out if 4k after the deposit will be enough as to weather the part buy would be doable for us or not
