The 9K a year pension and lump sum of 29K are what they're worth now; they'll both increase with CPI inflation each year, i.e. next year they will both increase 2.4%.0

The NAHT also issued a warning about retirement courses for teachers run by private providers.
WARNING: Please be aware that there are independent, private providers of retirement courses that are not necessarily conversant with all the options, up to date provisions, changes and proposals related to the Teachers' Pension Scheme.
NAHT was a full member of the TPS Review Groups and continues to represent members in national consultations. Thus, NAHT has the most up to date information, knowledge and advice. The same cannot be said of private providers because none are part of any consultations.
Furthermore, despite what may be intimated no private provider is approved or recommended by the Department for Education or Teachers' Pensions.
Please beware before you or any of your colleagues sign up on such courses. Wrong information may lead to wrong choices. Colleagues should defer to their union pension experts.0 -
The ATL also released a similar statement to that of the NAHT. If looking for advice on Teachers Pensions please ensure its approved by Teachers Pensions or your teaching union. Always call them to check first before booking onto these retirement courses!!
RETIREMENT PLANNING ADVICE AND SEMINARS
It has come to ATL's attention that a number of teachers are being contacted directly by firms offering retirement planning advice and seminars to individuals and in-school seminars, at not insignificant cost. Some of these are branded with similar colouring and style to Teachers' Pensions branding, suggesting that they are somehow linked to, or endorsed by, the Scheme or the DfE.0
