Broadband Question

Hi,

Looking to get broadband in the apartment I've just started renting.

Do many people in NI (Belfast esp) use Plusnet and if so what are their opinion of them? I believe they run on the BT network. This works out at £16.49pm (inc setup and discount).

My alternative to them would be Talk Talk who have a TV & Broadband deal for £21.00 (inc setup). Although these guys get a poor rating from customers.

Any words (good or bad) on Plusnet? I'm assuming that as they run on BT (owned by them) that there will be a good service from them.

Which place them just behind John Lewis for Broadband - average speed, decent technical support. So, not the best, but better than companies like BT, Virgin...

I had plusnet.Dreadful speed .I left them and went to talk talk . Talk Talk service has been good but customer service is not UK based ,so language difficulties .

  • Initially, I was planning to avoid getting a broadband contract. Instead plan was to get a Sim Only contract with large data allowance.
Currently trying to figure out if my old (Samsung S2 [3G]) handset will allow me to do this. The apartment complex I'm in doesn't seem to like let me do this very well.
  • Were are you based Old Git? I'm surprised that PLusnet is haing these problems as it is running on BT network and essentially is a BT company. When was this?

Also, if I decided to end my contract early (which would only be for moving address) how would the supplier handle this?

I was with them for a while, never had any issues. There big push is UK-based customer support, I very rarely find myself calling customer support for any company other than to cancel or switch so didn't really find that a positive in any way

All the ISPs use the BT network. Some ISPs have their own equipment in the exchanges.

I have used Plusnet for years and have had few problems. Any issues are quickly resolved ( if possible ) and customer service is good, both online and by phone. Speed depends on how far you are away from the exchange and the type of service you want to pay for. Maybe a tad technical but this site will give you lots of information, including which companies operate from your exchange ( as well as BT ), so look at the LLU options. https://availability.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

I have a 3 mobile sim only contract with 30gb data and unlimited texts and calls. I have seen it for around £18 a month. Your 3G phone should be okay, but thats down to the signal wherever you want to use it and of course it would be quicker if your phone was 4G compatible.
