Special diets on a budget

Personally, I didn't think about refined carbs. It was about keeping a stable blood sugar. So I used a list off a diabetic website to check glycaekic indexes of foods. That meant even natural things like many fruits (and definitely fruit juices) were out and surprisingly chips were better than boiled potatoes as the fat makes them release sugars more slowly when digested. I think that's true - it's my kind of diet anyway!!!0

Can't comment on the gluten free bit, but my bf has a dairy allergy. Own brand soya milk is just as good as the alpro stuff, and i get the yoghurts etc when on offer.
Soya milk and margarine substitutes fine for milk/butter when cooking and baking.
I honestly find it easy to cook a huge variety of dairy free meals for him. I think it helps that I do everything from scratch.
It's much easier feeling with allergies and intolerances these days compared with what it would have been like 30 years ago.Sealed pot challenge 11: number 5940
