Halifax Mortgage Process

Hi, I recently phoned Halifax to follow up my accepted mortgage promise and went through the second stage of their process with the mortgage advisor. All was going well and we passed the credit checks but were then told we had failed the final part of the application relating to shared ownership.

We are looking to use the Help to Buy equity loan scheme but the advisor told us he put it down as shared ownership, which it was declined on. I queried this to be certain and he said this the process they use.

I have done my own research and contacted Help to Buy and feel these 2 schemes are very different.

I just want to be sure I have been declined for the right reason and not a misunderstanding before I explore other options.

Any thoughts?

They are very different and on the Halifax system they have different options for HTB Equity Loan and standard Shared Ownership. Sounds like a boo boo at their end.

Any particular reason you used Halifax?

Thanks. It just didn’t fit right with me so I felt I had to look into it. I’m using Halifax initially as they offered an agreement in principle and also because I have had credit file blips in the past and after researching felt they were my best chance of a high street mortgage provider. I may use a Broker if I can’t progress the Query I’ve logged with Halifax.
