Yes, I agree with your thinking to an extent Joe!
What I meant was specifically claiming benefits - housing, child tax credits, jobseekers, working tax credit etc.
I see what you mean on education and healthcare, but I (and my parents) have contributed to society in this aspect - contributed into the system if you will - so never saw it as a handout.0 -
Paying NI is contributing to your state pension, and Job Seekers Allowance amongst other things.0

With 20 years of NI you'll be able to collect 20/35ths of state pension. If you stop working you can still make voluntary NI payments.
I retired at age 52 and will stop paying NI next year when I get to 35 years of contributions, 30 of those being voluntary.“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”0
