how does it work for national insurance contributions if on payroll partly for some jobs? does it affect the national insurance contributions in any way?

There are different classes of national insurance depending on whether the income is from employment or self employment.

As well as the above, NIC is paid above the threshold on a per-employment basis.0

employee pays Class 1 (subject to the thresholds)
self employed pay class 2 and class 4 (subject to the thresholds)
if you have a mix of employed and self employed income you may end up paying all 3 classes (subject to the thresholds)0
