(I do not feel I will ever be emotionally strong enough to cope with that one)
We are kindred spirits - I refuse to buy that one for DD
She is currently obsessing over 'Mog's Bad Thing'0 -
My 19yo daughter is still slightly traumatised over 'that' book - which my late m-I-l bought for her. Glad to see there are some Mog fans around
I would love to know how the sales figures of 'that' book compare to all the other ones - I haven't met a single person in RL who's been brave enough to buy/read it yet(!)
Spendy day yesterday - £12 on more party bag fillers, then £12 on two Pudsey winter hats for the children for CIN at school tomorrow (they have to wear something yellow with their uniform). Realised as both children are now at primary school my days of being able to buy them matching cute hats with bear ears on are probably numbered so may as well make the most of it£15ish in chemist - as Christmas is coming, obviously my stockpiles of toothpaste/shampoo/ etc are coming to an end.
Got assignment mark back - 80% Very happy with that considering what a struggle it was. Need to get started on the next one as it's so busy at the moment with DS's party, the hen party away in two weeks and general run up to Christmas. Was supposed to be researching for it yesterday but fell asleep reading the text book on the sofa
Yoga tonight and then serious studying. Dinner will have to be freezer surprise. We really need to get the freezer emptied as my FIL decided to buy half a lamb, but only has a tiny freezer at the top of their fridge, so has asked if we can store it in our large chest freezer. Mr BTC thinks this is a great idea as it'll put a hold on my addiction to YS bargains, regardless if anyone actually likes the product I'm buying0 -
Hi BTC
I have just read through your diary - well done on all you have achieved so far and your continued focus. I too have small kiddies (5 and 3) and a lot of my accidental spends are around doing "something" with them to avoid cabin fever on weekends!
With you on Motherland - hilarious and soooo accurate. Thoroughly enjoyable TV.
Keep up the good work xxMFW

We're also guilty of spending quite a lot on 'Entertainment' as it is glibly called in the Baby budget. Should probably change that line, 2 1/2 isn't really a baby... Then again, that covers everything from outdoor playgroup, to swimming, to soft play, to a ticket to an animal park.
Much as I find CIN to be a good cause, I was taken aback by how overboard DD's nursery went with it. Sponsored walk, 'pyjama day' and at least one other even in the space of 3-4 days. We do support charities in general, but as we'd already coughed up £15-20 for the sponsored whatever, it felt a bit like they were taking the !!!!. Aside from the amounts involved, at least half of the kids will have no conception of charity. When did other parents try and introduce this idea?0 -

Not if I don't read the book with the picture of her looking a bit ghostly on the front she doesn't! :eek:0 -
Tropically I'm afraid the rumours are true
atypicalblonde Thank you, yes - much of my unplanned spending is thanks to my little darlings (slightly concerned about how much this is going to go up when a walk to the shop to buy some sweeties/M4J/soft play is not going to do the trick!)
edinburgher I still refer to my children as babies (much to their dismay!) and they're at primary school:D Both went quite happy with their donations in pocket wearing their hats. However, you think nursery is bad, wait until they start school. That's when the fun really begins(!) Had a letter about the school Christmas fete the other day, with the following requests (aka demands):
- Jolly jar: Donate at least one (fill a jam jar with sweets, party bag type goodies and decorate)
- Cake stall: Bring in some cakes
- Bottle stall: Donate a bottle of wine
- Adopt a Teddy Stall: Donate a bear
- Book Stall - Donate a book
Then, at the bottom of this letter, the following: "Please send your children to school on the morning of the fete with a carrier bag or two for their purchases and £10 in change".
(I do realise, however, this type of thing might be specific to our local area!) Despite the letter saying items must be in good condition, the last few years both have come home laden with broken tat from this event which has had to be strategically filed in the bin.
Money news today - hopefully no spending. Have an event tonight, but all paid for and am not planning to drink due to DS's birthday at the weekend so no taxi fare home either :A0 -
I am so conscious that the kids will get a lot more expensive as they get older so paying the mortgage off now makes even more sense! They were happy with a trip to the charity shop after school today
Agree re school costs. We had a similar letter about items to take it and money to contribute. I raided DH wallet for the fiver requested for the raffle tickets
Enjoy your weekend and DS birthday xxMFW

I assume DD will bankrupt us for most of our working lives. To that end, we invest a lot in pensions, we will be spending her inheritance in 20 years or so :rotfl:0
