Employment - no contracted hours

Hello
I have received a new job offer which I verbally accepted. It is a project manager role in a finance company.
When I discussed the role I was told that the normal working hours are 9-5. However, when I received the contract there is nothing in there about working hours. It only says that I am required to work as many hours as it is required to fulfill my duties without violating the working directive. It means that I may be required to work up to 48 hours a week.
This is not one of those zero hours contracts, my salary is fixed.
It is normal that typical working hours are not stated in the contract? I have never seen it before and my concern is that it opens me to my bosses asking me to work excessive hours every week. Any advice on how to approach it?
Thank you in advance.

Sounds about right for a PM role0

I agree - it sounds about parr for the course for a project manager. Surprising that the OP hasn't seen it before - it's not uncommon. "Normal working hours" actually means exactly the same thing. It means that you normally work 9-5 but are expected to work any hours beyond these hours to fulfill the role. Time off in lieu would also be common though, at least with some employers. You could ask about that.unforeseen wrote: »Sounds about right for a PM role0
