Can't pay debt to Very catalogue

I apologise if this is in the wrong place, I feel very foggy and am struggling with my thoughts.

I owe Very over a £1000 for items I got on BNPL, unfortunately I lost my job and my partner stopped working full time. We recieve housing benefit and my partner now has a part time job but it only just about covers the necessities, leaving us with nothing to pay Very.

I recently sent out letters to credit cards I am unable to pay, should I do the same with Very?

Lastly, If I can't pay, will they take back the things I brought?

    Hi,

No it dosent work like that, they wont want the stuff back, unless you are still able to return it under there returns policy, offer very £1 a month till things improve.

They wont like it though, and will most likely fast track your account to collections, and will then off load to a debt purchaser.

Non of this should cause alarm, its all pretty standard stuff, just pay a token of £1 until you find work again.

You mention credit cards as well, if you have other debts, it might be worth looking at your options by contacting one of the free debt charities, look in my signature for the links.

A similar thing happened to me with next. I had a debt of £1900 and then our circumstances changed and like you I couldn't afford repayments. I contacted them to explain and we negotiated a repayment plan for 3 months to then be revised. They are used to this so don't feel worried. The sooner you deal with it the better. They would rather you pay something until you get back on track, even £1 a month. My only advice - be really firm. Don't agree to more than you can afford just to get them off your back. They will only hit you harder if you break the ' agreement'. Do a budget first them offer them what you can afford. Paying rent and food is far more important. Remember things will get better too.
  • OP if you have a number of debts that you can't pay maybe a DRO (debt relief order) maybe the answer, speak to CAB or a debt charity.
