O/S Daily Friday 13th October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was pork loins in a mustard and honey sauce, served with veg rice and tagliatelle - I enjoyed but the sauce was very strong - menfolk not so keen. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but I'm food shopping first thing, so will find something in the SM.

Yesterday I wasn't very productive - I had nail appointment in the middle of the day followed by another appointment - so lost majority of the afternoon, and spent the morning trying to sort out the supply of new parts we need to get the shower in the main bathroom working properly again, this is a work in progress, and is in hand, hoping to be able to get something sorted today.

So on to today -

I'll be heading to the SM first thing, I need to contact company re shower and tackle the ironing pile, I'm going to see my bestie as I haven't seen her for months, so we'll be having a catch up over lunch, she's has an appointment at 2pm but can go straight from the pub where we'll have lunch, so I won't be too late back, if needs must I'll get the ironing done then or at worst can do it tomorrow morning. Our bed needs stripping and remaking too. I would like to get some baking/cooking done too - seems like I'm going to be a bit busy ....

Keep safe and well x

Very windy out there today with sideways rain thrown in, great start to the October break! It's an in-service day today and my colleague and I are off to the blue and yellow shed to do some school shopping - beats sitting at my desk sorting through emails, bills, etc.

I can't believe I have a sore throat again, not sure the last bout of lurgy completely left, hoping it goes away quickly.

Went to a leaving party for the children of my colleague that passed away yesterday evening, they have relocated over the river, lovely new house and seem to be doing well. It was a little like being at school with all the children there and parents asking all sorts of questions!

There was no internet here yesterday, I was quite lost!

Hope everyone is ok, enjoy Friday. Take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels much a milder start here this morning. Although yesterday eventually turned out quite a nice day.

Our mystery trip out with DB and SIL was lovely. We had a drive through the lovely countryside of the lower Dales and then over the Forest of Bowland into Lancashire. A scenic drive to The Garden Kitchen for late lunch. To say so remote it was quite busy so obviously popular and DB was glad he booked. We started with Carrot and Orange soup which was so good. I've never had it before so been scouring the 'net for recipes to try and replicate it! Watch this space!

Today must get some jobs done including a half hearted Friday Tidy and clean this morning. Then this afternoon a foray to the sm for a top up shop of fruit, veg and dairy. Determined not to buy anything else for the freezer!

Have a good day folks if you can and (HUGS) for all who want/need them. Take care xx

Dark and cold here but meant to be a nice day later on, off to work for me but its Friday :j, we have loads of staff in today so I might see if I can take some lieu this afternoon and leave early, if so I can go to the shop and get the weeks shopping in, we are running low on lots of things, I usually go on a Saturday but we are hoping to get dd's new wardrobe up tomorrow which will take a while so don't want to be out for a couple of hours shopping.

Dinner tonight will be a takeaway and wine will be consumed  . Its going to be a busy weekend so need to make the most of tonight.

OH has put a wash on this morning so that will have to go in the td tonight, its only his work stuff so wont matter if it sits in the machine all day.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Thank you for starting us off nmlc.

I’ve decided to have some of the lighting changed in my house. For some unknown reason the three sitting room lights are either all off or all on, there is no option to use them individually. As I usually use lamps it has never really bothered me, but I would like the option of being able to just have the light in the dining area on. So today I’ve got three electricians coming to give me quotes. Hopefully I will be able to get it done fairly soon.

That should keep me tied to the house for most of the day, although I want to pop out to the sm first thing and put a prescription into the pharmacy while I’m out.

I’m holding out for Sunday to try and get the washing up to date because the forecast for this area is warm and sunny, so that should mean that I can get it all line dried. I don’t support that there will be many more opportunities to dry is outside until the spring now.

This week’s freezer roulette is proving interesting, what I thought yesterday was either a chicken or turkey casserole on early inspection turned out to be a sausage casserole. It will be interesting to see what today brings.

Right, time for breakfast and more tea.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Good sleep always leads to a good morning! Up at usual time despite DW and DS1 having a lie in owing to later hosp appt.
Far too much travelling this week - but one upside ; other folk paid for & sandwich lunches and evening drinks one day. Saw an old chum for diner.

Serious "back on track" weekend coming up: store cupboard meals ( spicy bean tortillas for evening meal) souping for lunches & veg plot clearing ( I always find a surprise meal or two) then shelling yet more Borlotto beans
Now for coffee and work, prepping to go & see a colleague in distress !
    Have a great day everyone.

    Morning :hello:

CRANKY Thank you, last night I looked on Amazon for chests – loads to choose from and I now want one for myself :D

A friend drove to Liverpool from Cornwall for a funeral a couple of days ago, we rang him to suggest a pit stop at our house on the way home today. We don't see him for months, then we see him twice in one week :D

Work didn't go to plan yesterday, my modem was playing up. By the time it was working properly again, it was gone 4pm and I wasn't going to start at that time. So I'll be spreadsheeting and HMRCing this morning instead. Nothing else is planned, so I might watch some recorded programs this afternoon.

Haven't posted for a few days, nothing to say.

Would love to tell you about days out and wonderful friends but it doesn't happen.

  • Good morning all,

Played footie last night although my team were really good so I didn't really have to do much.

My gym buddy is at a funeral today so the gym wasn't mandatory. I opted for a bit of a lie in then I went for some stretched. Now in the office still shattered, need another coffee.

Date night tonight with my gran which will be nice. Not sure what's on the menu but guaranteed it'll be lovely.

Need to go get that coffee.

    SO - Sending you hugs!

    Morning everyone,

Glad you enjoyed the mystery tour TA sounds smashing.

Bit dull and dreary here today so will go through the house this morning and then over to the yard later when hopefully it has brightened up.
Had a lovely visit with SIL yesterday, she has just moved out of the family home that she shared with my late brother into a smaller house so heart rending stuff but it's cosy little place and she's very happy with it. Also popped into to see eldest niece but she was busy with salon clients so didn't stop long.

We picked up some mackerel fillets yesterday, I like them hot with stir fry veg do that's an easy supper.

Have a good day folks x
