Instant dismissal and notice pay

No right to unfair dismissal with less than 2 years' service.
Write a recorded letter to them saying you are expecting the remaining pay as you were told. But without a contract it's going to be difficult to enforce anything.
I would consider yourself lucky to have escaped - they don't sound very nice. Checking your home email isn't Gross Misconduct.
If you read my post, which you quoted, I suggested that the OP may have a claim for wrongful dismissal for which (unlike unfair dismissal) there is no two year qualifying period!
In certain work situations doing anything unauthorised on the computers could be gross misconduct. I agree that in the majority of "normal" jobs that would probably not be the case but we have no idea where the OP worked.
The contract is irrelevant. With between one month and two years service there is a statutory right to a week's notice except in the case of gross misconduct.0 -

My guess is an AE building up their posting count.Originally Posted by shortcrust

The OP didn't say it was. They were dismissed with pay in lieu of notice and asked to leave immediately. That isn't the same thing as gross misconduct - even with two years service, it isn't the same thing. And nothing says that this was a "lucky escape" - just because an employer expects you to (a) not use their computers for personal business, or (b) not use working time on their computers for personal business, or (c) not download emails that may have questionable content in working time on their computers for personal business..... You get my drift? We have no idea what happened other than the OP checked their email on a work computer; and that they were dismissed with notice. It cannot be assumed that it wasn't the employer that had a lucky escape!Checking your home email isn't Gross Misconduct.0 -

They also often repeat "advice" given several days previously, definitely building up posting count. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
