Best gluten free bread

Hi unfortunately I am gluten intolerant so have had to change the way I cook etc. That in itself is not a problem but I find the gluten free bread quite disgusting. Usually I toast it and that does help.

Can anyone recommend a type of bread/roll that is more palatable. All gf stuff seems to carry a premium by way of cost. I haven't been to As** yet to look at their range and so far have found Morri***'s to have a good range at a good price. Thanks.:money::money:

  • Hi,

Personal preference - I like the sourdough kinds for white bread bacon sarnies (not cheap!), Tesco sliced brown isn't too bad, and for rolls Schar ciabatta white or knobbly (both vacuum-packed) or they do a bag of white frozen rolls - and Sains's rolls are ok. Or I make my own loaves - Doves Farm do both white and brown bread flour-substitutes - I've not tried the white but regularly do the brown.

Mark's &Spencer gf bread is nice, also if you can find the Warburtons-made Newburnhouse range, they are nice too. (one of the Warburtons family is gf so thats why the range was developed by them.)

Also, if you have an Asda their GF flour give a very good result without the grittiness of Doves Farm. I use them for professional cake baking and nobody can tell which cake is the GF one ;)

Finally Aldi have a good range of gf bread mixes - haven't tried them myself but gf brother uses them in his bread maker for bacon butties!

GF bread still leaves a lot to be desired, I have gone back to real butter to make it taste better.
I've found the Schar frozen bread rolls to be the best ones by a mile, bake in the oven for about 6 mins, really nice. But that's just my personal taste
  • Warburtons have recently started selling an unsliced tiger loaf - by far the best GF bread I've eaten.
