Tatty Cork Placemats??

I have some placemats which are cork and then plain green on top. They are becoming tatty with knife marks and the green coming off at the edges.
New mats seem incredibly expensive. Is there anyway of recovering them??decoupage?? painting them? as the cork itself is in good condition, just the top.
Advice greatfully recieved.

Hi there
If you look in places like wilkos, you can get fablon..all different patterns that is sticky backed and wipe down.. or you could stick on your own designs and use sticky backed plastic to seal... great if you have kids as they can make their own..even using pics of themselves etc and when you want to update them, just pull it off and do again....-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
How about sticking family photos on them (perhaps of each person using them) and then covering them in sticky back plastic?I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Do you have children??
When mine were little, I used one of their disney print studio cds, you could just get a colouring in off the net, print it off, let them colour it in, then I laminated them. The kids thought they were the whole cheese.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
Not tried this, but think it should work. How about a bit of decoupage, then some hard wearing (floor type, possibly?) varnish.
Might try it myself, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
we've got some that are starting to look rather tatty.. we don't entertain often (just me and the OH so we put up with it when we eat at the table!) and the last time we did was christmas.. then i just covered them with wrapping paper for the day and ripped it off afterwards. The sellotape didn't stick very well to the cork part (at the back) so if you want it for longer then i would wrap the whole thing so you're sticking paper to paper (like a parcel) but for one day i found that was okay.
