I bought a few of these as presents last year and what's good about these ones is that they have a steam vent in the lid, most don't.

Interesting, you'd think that'd be a bad idea as I thought the point was to keep the steam in to maintain a constant temperature.
My slow cooker recipe book says taking the lid off releases steam & means you need to increase cooking time by around 30 mins.

Out of interest, how many could you feed from say a casserole made in this one?

I like it as then it doesn't get too watery but I suppose it's down to preference and adjusting recipes? I don't follow a recipe just put whatever in and make sure it's covered with liquid - except for a whole chicken, then I just put a few cupfuls of hot cider, wine or stock.

Well I've fed 6 people with a casserole and added rice & veg to accompany it.
