Party games for 10 year old

Options
Hi.
I hope this is the right place to post this.
I am trying to organize games for my daughter’s 10th birthday this weekend; the party is for 10 children, boys and girls, including one with learning disabilities and one with reduced mobility.
So far I thought I would make them do a silly activity in pairs (the person at the back has the arms and has to brush the teeth of the person in front if you follow me)
I also wanted to do a pass the parcel with each layer being a challenge; Ideas I had for this was “Sing a nursery rhyme to the tune of another one, recite the alphabet backwards, answer quiz type of questions (Can you name the prime minister, How old is the Queen.)
Can anyone think of more please?

  • hmmm how about splitting them into two teams and getting together a collection of music and having them name that tune as a team.

At my 10 years old a few weeks ago - we had a piniatta - bought from Wilkinson - they all enjoyed that.

It's my daughters' 10th birthday party this weekend too - I have some girly things planned - but also a High School Musical quiz (all I needed were pictures printed off the internet and the CD), a pass the parcel game (never too old for this!) and an "Islands" game - using 4 of the High School Musical pictures, all dance to the music, then run to a character when the music stops. I shout out one of the characters - and anyone standing next to that one gets a sweet (rather than being "out") - that game can run for ages as no-one is "out" that way.

On DD1s 11th (before starting secondary school) I put them into teams of 3 (could do 2's or 4's I suppose) according to which school they would be going to (they didn't all know each other very well at that stage) and they played 'Mummies' (as in Egyptian, not parent !).

They have to select one in each group to be the Mummy (more passive role). Largest pack of the cheapest toilet rolls you can get (better as they rip easily therefore more difficult - plus doesn't cost much overall for the game !!), give each team two or three each and tell them there's a prize for the team with the best wrapped Mummy after 5 minutes or so.

Our group had great fun with this - parents were arriving to pick their kids up towards the end and there were toilet rolls flying everywhere, being retrieved from flower beds, kids hopping around swathed in toilet roll bandages etc etc. Some of her friends still talk about this game !

my daughter is 13 but went to an 11 year olds party a few months back( i was helping out) and what they did was do a pass the parcel but each wrapper contained something to put on necklace, sunglassess, bra, hat(they are told they cant keep these) and the last one was a prize the children thought this game was brilliant as its a grown up fun version lol

Also a few maltessers in a cup, straw and paper plate each the idea is the first to get the maltessers out of the cup to the plate using the straw in their mouth no hands

Another is each have 2 minutes to eat dry cream crackers (no drink) the winner is the one to eat the most lol( this can be messy as they are laughing and spitting crackers out)

The children really loved these games as they were different and more fun than the normal games
  • a really great game is to divide them in pairs, give each pair a plastic cup of water and a spoon. one has to feed the water to the other using a spoon. the first pair to finish wins. Very messy but always a winner. Rasberry blowing competitions also do well for younger kids.

To calm them down... how about a simple game of chinese whisper? With 10 it is about the right number!

We did a party at home for my DD 10th birthday in June.

I did a pass the parcel, and like you had challenges in each layer, but I had things like 'Singstar sing-off' (using the PS2 singstar game to get them to chose an apponant and compete for a prize), and 'dance-off' (same with the dance mat), and mini treasure hunt challenges (a small gift hidden in the room for the person to find), and 'taste challenge' (the old blindfolded tasting game...)
If they did their challenge and won, they got a small prize.
The game kept them occupied for almost an hour!!

We also got out a stack of old board games, really young ones, like Hungry Hippos and Flippin Penguins and Loupin Louis.... games the girs hadn't plaiyed for years, and they loved this too.... it got very silly and giggley.

But i think the Singstar got the most attention really - girls just love to sing!

There's the Chocolate Race : you need a dice, a paper plate, a knife, a fork, a big slab of chocolate and a variety of dressing up clothes (scarf, hat, skirt, jacket, sunglasses etc).

Everyone sits in a circle, and takes turns to throw the dice. As soon as someone throws a 6, that person jumps up, has to put on all the dressing up clothes, and run to the other end of the room where they are allowed to each some chocolate BUT ONLY using the knife and fork (which makes it frustratingly difficult!). The rest of the circle carry on throwing the dice, and as soon as the next one is thrown, the person with the chocolate has to stop eating, run back, take off all the dressing up clothes and pass them on to the next person, then re-join the circle while the second person runs off to start eating. This game gets very, very noisy!

Sleeping Lions is a good one for calming everyone down. Everyone has to lie on their backs on the floor, and keep perfectly still. The person who is "it" has to wander around trying to make the sleeping lions giggle - they can do anything they like, but mustn't actually touch them. Whoever laughs is out, until there's a winner.
