Discount Audio / Visual

(I originally put this on the wrong thread)

Don't know whether this has been mentioned but......... If you are looking to buy an expensive laptop / TV / Camcorder...... then consider having a short break at the same time.

Dixons TAX Free are very amenable. At airports......they offer most of the Audio / Video appliances you find in a High Street Dixons store but the equivalent of VAT free.

You need to have a flight booking in order to get a boarding card .........but that doesn't need to cost very much at all. The flight checker will find the cheapest flights.

It is best to contact them in advance,at the airport you are departing from....... and they promise to do thier best to make sure the exact product you are after is available for you...... minus the equivalent of VAT.

I have contacted them questioning whether all air destinations (EU / none EU) are eligable for VAT free buying and they have clarified that no matter where you are travelling to...... VAT is not an issue. They simply discount the product the equivalent of UK VAT.

On an Apple Mac Book.... that is a lot of money..... even after a day in Dublin.

They will also deliver or hold the product for collection when you get back.

Oh and one final point...... Because the item has simply been discounted the equivallent of VAT........ and VAT has actually been paid....... then......if you are VAT registered......... you are perfectly entitled to claim VAT back.

So for some business transactions, you can get the equivalent of DOUBLE VAT off.

  • Beware when buying from Dixons Tax Free. I have just checked the price of an MP4 player. It is £188 on Dixons normal website but when I phoned the Heathrow branch of Dixons Tax Free it costs £195. So much for Tax Free.
