Can someone please confirm it isn't just me? After entering my ID and password the page says "502 Bad Gateway". I do get the text message with my access code, but to no avail.

I think HMRC's system has been down for a few days now. Accountants were reporting not being able to login on Friday. Helpfully (not), there was nothing on their service status pages when I last looked, so they're not even bothering to tell people they have a problem with their websites.0

I didn't realise there was a service status page, I assume it is this one: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/self-assessment-service-availability-and-issues/self-assessment-service-availability-and-issues
As you say it says "full service available" but that page was last updated in August. Would it not show up here until someone manually updates it?0 -
I have just received this error message too... I have 2 gateway numbers , one I can log into, but the other I cannot. It has been up and down all weekend though has the site , as it was down most of the day yesterday0

Cheers Sophie for confirming. I hadn't tried in recent days. I will check again when I next have time. Very frustrating this, whenever I sit down with some spare time to do my finances the HMRC and bank websites are always unavailable.0

More than likely a lot to do with the new log in process from 27th September (which I found when I logged in this morning!)
All working now though!0 -
Wasn't working last night once clicking on the option to complete a Self Assessment 'An error has occured'0

OK - I was just working on the basis that I was able to sign in today whereas I could not even get that far on Friday - and this was to read the messages that HMRC sent to me!0 -
I have been able to log on and it notice a few new features however after every page or 2 I receive a "system error" page telling me to try again or contact HMRC helpdesk quoting a reference number. Logging out and back in is required every few minutes. At least the access code can be remembered for 7 days so I haven't needed a text message each time.0

And people laugh at me for doing a paper tax return....0

Its last page update now shows yesterday's date (03 October), but clicking on the 'Complete Return' button in my account still shows the "Sorry, we're experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again in a few minutes" message. Not been able to access my partially completed SA return for over 3 days now. Good job it isn't deadline day.
Update: Panic over! I managed to access my SA Return page after logging-in on a different computer which initiated a new access code from HMRC. I had previously ticked the box which retained the access code for 7 days, and this appears to have been the reason for my inability to gain access to the SA Return pages using my original computer browser (Opera Chrome). I then discovered that I could regain access to my SA Return pages on my original computer by logging-in using a different browser (Google Chrome) which generated a request for a new access code. Phew!0
