This printer is NOT wireless but the cartridges that are included if purchased separately cost £24, although if you purchase an additional set at the same time as the printer you get a £5 discount... but it would actually be cheaper to just buy 2 printers!

If you already use these ink cartridges it's cheaper to buy the printer to get them!

  • It was the same price at Amazon last week as I bought one. Be aware though that it does not come with a cable to connect it even though its not wireless. Cables are about £6.

Note also that it only comes with test ink cartridges so not full capacity. They run out pretty quickly. Apart from that it seems ok if a little flimsy.

Not like the HP printers of old that were really built to last. I'm still using a LaserJet 6L that I got in 1997 and it is still going strong!

Re the cable, most printers (going back 30+ years*) didn't include a cable as shipped from the manufacturer (a few retailers would throw one in with the order).

As it's USB2 you can pick up a cable from poundland if needed, or if you've had any printers/scanners in the past should be able reuse their cables.

*I think it harks back to the days when home computers didn't always use a standard parallel port, and some printers had both a 9/25 pin serial and parallel interface.

Does it take compatible ink? if not just an expensive paperweight if it only comes with the test ink cartridges.

In my experience HP printers will not accept compatible cartridges at all.

However someone else may know differently as I obviously haven't used all their printers, a good many yes, but not all.
  • had this printer for a year ...use compatibles fine .
  • Are the refill kits suitable?

it's cheap for a reason I guess. These days the manufacturers make (much) more profit on the ink so they virtually give the printers away.
