Eldest son has lived away for years. He uses our address for his Bank, Credit Cards, his Employer, Inland Revenue, NHS, and the CSA. It has worked well all this time but we recently found out from his employer that he hasn't been to work for months.
If there is trouble - and there will be - over his debts, how do we stand? Can we be held liable? Can we be blacklisted for credit? We've excellent credit history, no debt, no cards, only ever have a car loan and never missed a payment. If I get any Recorded Delivery letters what should I do - accept and open to see what's going on - or refuse to accept them?

I would refuse to accept them & mark any letters "not at address" & put in post.
Why has he not changed his address?
You can't be held liable for son's debts but it won't stop debt collectors sending letters etc to your address. Get it changed ASAPTallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
Hi, Mardatha Please read my current thread. Don't let it reach that stage. Debt collectors not care who they get to pay the outstanding debt even if you are not liable. They can get a warrant through potential credit links.0

What kind of warrant? And thanks both of you xx
EDITED; read that stirfry that's awful, I hope you get things sorted out but am sure you will! I'm in Scotland, not sure if we have bailiffs here? I need to google, I really haven't a clue about all this.0 -

Ok, for the avoidance of any doubt, no one else can be held liable for someone’s else’s debt.
There is no such thing as a credit black list.
Anyone, who may knock on the door asking for your son, no matter who they may be, you do not let them in, debt collector/bailiff/whoever show them proof of who you are, keep them outside, even with a high court writ a bailiff cannot break in or force entry, unless they are chasing a criminal fine.
